Dassante

I was sitting at the downstairs bar of the club having a drink and fucking up some Caribbean shrimp kabobs when Charmita slipped her sexy ass into the seat next to me.

“Look at my plate baby, I got ‘bout a hundred kabobs. I was supposed to be eatin’ a big ass steak tonight over candlelight with you at Bones.”

I grinned at her. I was hoping she had calmed down and wasn’t mad at me anymore. But the look she gave me almost killed me right there where I sat.

“You want some? They ain’t got shit on a steak from Bones, but they good though,” I said with a smirk, trying to make her laugh. My tactic wasn’t working. She stared at me in silence, and I swore I could literally see smoke coming out of her ears.

“No. Where’s Sissell?” she asked with an attitude she’d never given me before.

“You just missed her. She just left about twenty minutes ago,” I told her.

“You must have told her I was mad, and she left to dodge me,” she said rolling her eyes.

“Nah, I didn’t tell her anything. She got off at nine o’clock. I thought that was her usual end time.” I shrugged innocently. I was telling her the truth, but it seemed to piss her off even further.

I watched her order a double vodka Cosmo from the bartender. She didn’t speak again until after the drink was delivered and she’d taken a few sips.

“So, why the fuck did you think it was wise to do what you did, Dassante?” she asked me just as the music in the club lowered and the male host named Triz went onstage to introduce the wet T-shirt contestants.

I knew Charmita was already mad at me, so I was sure to keep my eyes away from the stage. I didn’t need to give her any other reason to hate me at the moment.

“Baby listen, the nigga already been handled, and the shit is over. Now, if you need me to send somebody after the bitch to make sure she don’t cross no more lines, I can do that.”

I said it in a no bullshit tone. I didn’t think that we needed to dwell on the situation anymore, and I hoped she would soon drop it and go back to her sweet self.

“I’m not with all this ghetto ass hood shit you got me mixed up in, Dassante! You never should have involved yourself with him like that. I told you to just let the shit rest!”

She screamed at me loud enough for the whole club to hear. My eyes bucked in shock and embarrassment.

All eyes went from the women onstage to me and Charmita. Triz did his best to revert the crowd’s attention back to the stage as he queued for the DJ to play another song.
